Organized by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Session in IP Week @ SG 2021 will take the theme of "IP-Driven Development of "Green Niche": To be a Trendy Entrepreneur for Green Investors."

The approx. 90 min. session will introduce three speakers to make presentations from the "GREEN" perspective of 'WIPO Green' project, IP research, and investment.

The seminar will further discuss how to develop a Green niche field to contribute to the trend "GREEN" from the aspect of Intellectual Property.

IWASAKI-Susumu

Mr. IWASAKI Susumu

Deputy Commissioner, Japan Patent Office (JPO)

IWASAKI Susumu is the Deputy Commissioner, Chief Design Officer and Chief Information Officer of the JPO since April 2020. Prior to assuming this current position, he served as Director-General of the Patent Examination Department for Chemistry, Life Science and Material Science, and the Patent Examination Department for Mechanical Technology. He also served as Director of the Administrative Affairs Division and the International Policy Division. He was also a Visiting Researcher at George Washington University Law School, and he supported Japanese companies in Europe at the JETRO Dusseldorf Office for 3 years from 2002. He also has experience as a patent examiner and an administrative judge in the field of mechanical technologies and was involved in other intellectual property administrative affairs as well. He joined JPO in April 1988 and holds a B.A. in Aeronautical Engineering from the School of Engineering at Nagoya University.

Mr. KANEKO Hiroyuki

Fujitsu, Ltd.

Hiroyuki Kaneko of Fujitsu limited has been in charge as the leader of Fujitsu’s WIPO GREEN activities, including registration and introduction of Fujitsu's environmental technologies, licensing negotiations, and external communications since Fujitsu joined WIPO GREEN as a partner in 2017.

Currently, as a member of Japan Intellectual Property Association(JIPA), he is participating in SDGs Project, a policy project in JIPA aimed at promoting environmental technologies and deepening partnerships with other companies through utilizing WIPO GREEN.

Dr. Ren Chong LIM

Assistant Professor, Centre for Advanced Material and Energy Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam

Dr Ren Chong LIM is Assistant Professor at Centre for Advanced Material and Energy Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. He currently conducts academic research in anticorrosion coatings and hydrothermal biomass processing. Patent data analytics are regularly carried out during these research activities to identify opportunities for innovation. He also gives seminars on innovation and technology for executive development programmes hosted at the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), UBD. Dr Lim has filed 2 PCT applications and completed several distance-learning modules with WIPO on patents and management of intellectual property rights.

Growth Manager, Real Tech Fund

KUMAMOTO Daiki is a venture capitalist in Real Tech Fund one of the largest deep-tech-focused VC in Japan. 

He is specialized in supporting startups, especially that bring solutions to care / welfare, and is also leading the Global Fund that started in 2020 investing into deep-tech startups in Southeast Asia.

Before joining Real Tech, he was the president of the largest NPO in Japan that commits in supporting young entrepreneurs globally. He graduated from Keio SFC University with a bachelor's in management.

Mr. Jeremy LIM, Senior Consultant (Innovation & Advisory Services), Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE).

Jeremy Lim is a senior consultant in ACE specializing in corporate innovation. One of his key focus areas is assisting corporates to renew their IP value and scout for high potential start-ups for open innovation purposes. He is also passionate about nurturing tech start-ups and building a robust ecosystem that can support them.

Before his role in ACE, Jeremy was a business development manager and pioneered multiple programs (such as Japan Market Insights, Tech Venture Thailand and Singapore’s first Hyper Interdisciplinary Conference) in Leave a Nest Singapore. He had also worked as a water membrane researcher in Toray where he was part of a global team whose successful research application was presented to Toray Industries’ CEO. Jeremy has an academic background in environmental engineering (Masters degree) and food science (Bachelors degree).
